I am interested in the intersection of nature and human constructs such as bridges, roads, barns and the like. As an architect used to hard edged drawing I find freedom in the very expressive media of sketching and watercolours. I find water based media the most expressive of mediums. And it is most challenging. Watercolour has a mind of its own at times and I like to refer to the results of a watercolour as "controlled accidents". Every painting can delight with its results.
Lawrence has painted in watercolours since his early teens and is self taught. He joined the Toronto Watercolour Society in 2016 and is now a Signature Member. His work continues to evolve as he discovers new surfaces to paint on and new tools to use. These in turn urge on experimentation and more colourful and expressive representations of nature.
Lawrence is an architect and project manager with his own firms based in Toronto
